“Finish every day and be done with it. You have done what you could; Some blunders and absurdities crept in; Forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; You shall begin it serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense.”
— Ralph Waldo Emerson, an American essayist, lecturer, and poet, who led the Transcendentalist movement of the mid-19th century. He was seen as a champion of individualism and a prescient critic of the countervailing pressures of society, and he disseminated his thoughts through dozens of published essays and more than 1,500 public lectures across the United States.

Midnight MoonEver since I was little, I’ve had a fascination with the night sky.  It all started when I was a youngin’- my dad would pick up my sister and I on Friday nights and take us to the IMAX theatre in Richmond where we would watch a star show of what was going to be out tonight. Afterwards, we would grab the traditional CiCi’s Pizza, hot chocolate from a gas station, and set up a telescope on a golf course not too far from his apartment. We’d find all of the planets, our favorite constellations, (Mine being Orion, specifically his belt.) and even watch a meteor show every once and a while.Though I’ve grown older and things have changed, I can always find comfort in the stars. If I had a no-good-terrible day at school, I’ll walk to the old playground right off campus and stare into the night sky. It helps me see that there is always little bits of lights that shine thorough even when everything else seems lost in the darkness.

Vintage Spoon RingsThis morning I went out to lunch with some of my parent’s friends who have basically known me my entire life. Right before the meal was served, my mom’s friend pulled out a box of all of her old jewelry and gave it to my sister and I.It was like a treasure chest full of old necklaces, cuff bracelets, darling earrings, and my favorite, old vintage spoon rings.I fell in love with these guys immediately. Once I got home I found a tutorial on how to make your own, which I plan on doing as soon as I get my hands on some antique flatware :)

Creativity!

Creativity is not linear, just like the earth is not flat….If you keep going long enough you will always get back to where you started from. That is when you have lived a full life. That is the artist’s path.

New years day 2012.

Last year was rough from day one. I challenged myself, I cried, I grew up, I had my heart broken, I learned things the hard way, I lost myself, and I had to learn how to accept things I didn’t want to.
Accepting.
I think that’s a tough lesson for anybody to learn. To accept yourself, to accept your situation, to accept rejection, etc… Its something that we’re constantly learning how to do in this fickle world.I made a resolution to focus on myself this year. I’ve found in the past that it’s much easier to help others with their problems than face yourself and who you are.I’ll be honest: I have no idea who I am right now, or what I want from this life. I don’t think any nineteen year old should, but hey, we all have to start somewhere.
Later this month I’m going on a self-exploration road trip out west with a friend. We don’t know where we’re going, but we hope to discover something about ourselves along the way. We want to be touched deep down by just the sight of a desert or a sunrise, something so simple but yet so breathtaking. Whether or not I will discover part of myself on this journey doesn’t matter, what matters is that I made the journey in the first place. To be frank:Sometimes you need to journey to where you have nothing to realize that you have everything at your grasp.
The truth is, I do have the world at my grasp. A month from today I’m traveling halfway across the world for the first time. I’ll be spending five months in Malta (and various other countries on weekend travels) before visiting friends in Greece and England for the remainder of the summer. Though I am going to make friends along the way, I realized that nobody is going to know me better for the next few months than myself. After all, what better way to ponder life and who you are as a person than on a beach in the Mediterranean with a drink in your hand?
So cheers to you, 2012. I’m here, ready to live.JCB

How do we go about turning into the people we are meant to become?

—Lucy Grealy

I love old things.
If it’s covered in lace, pearls or satin, I’ll want it to be part of my wardrobe.
If it’s an old book, I’ll want to sit and savor every last page.
Oh, and if has to do with Audrey Hepburn, I’ll practically drool over it.

I wish people were still this beautiful.
